Abstract in Portuguese
A Biblioteca José de Alencar, que integra a Faculdade de Letras da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, é uma das maiores bibliotecas da América Latina. Entre o seu acervo, que é divido por coleções, está o Acervo Geral (ACG), objeto desta pesquisa, o qual vem sofrendo danos. Assim, o objetivo principal desta pesquisa foi o de estabelecer planos de conservação preventiva para o patrimônio documental do ACG. Para tal, foi necessário verificar a situação do estado de conservação das obras e os motivos que estão causando danos, bem como analisar o impacto dos ambientes interno e externo sobre as coleções. O estudo se justifica
pela necessidade de conservar e preservar o acervo que é especial, pois foi originalmente constituído por coleções particulares de autores renomados, bibliófilos e pesquisadores. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi a ficha diagnóstico e registro fotográfico. Trata-se de estudo de caso dividido em: diagnóstico do ambiente e do acervo, análise dos dados e planos de conservação preventiva. Algumas ações de conservação preventiva foram implementadas, incluindo sala de quarentena, higienização de todas as obras que serão incorporadas ao acervo, treinamento dos responsáveis pela limpeza, educação patrimonial, como também ações interventivas nas obras, entre outras. A investigação teve como produto um protótipo da publicação intitulada “Conservação preventiva do patrimônio documental: Diagnóstico de acervos”, que apresenta uma metodologia prática para as questões de preservação documental, de modo a se tornar acessível a quaisquer instituições.
Abstract
The José de Alencar Library, which is part of the Faculty of Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, is one of the largest libraries in Latin America. Among its works, which are divided by collections, there is the General Collection (ACG), object of this research, which has been suffering damages. Thus, this research had the main objective of establishing preventive conservation plans for the documentary heritage of the ACG’s. In order to do so, it was necessary to verify the conservation state of the works and the reasons that are causing
damages, as well as to analyze the impact of the internal and external environments on the collections. The study is justified by the need to conserve and preserve the collection that is special because it was originally made up of private collections of renowned authors, bibliophiles, and researchers. It is a case study divided into environmental and collection diagnosis, data analysis, and preventive conservation plans. Some preventive conservation plans were implemented, including quarantine room, hygiene of all the works that will be
incorporated into the collection, training of those responsible for cleaning, patrimonial education, as well as intervention actions in the works, among others. The research presents in a prototype of the publication entitled “Preventive Document Conservation: Diagnosis of Collections”, the objective is to present a practical methodology for document preservation issues, in order to be accessible to any institution.
