Abstract
This article updates progress in quality improvement (QI) in health care in Brazil since 1998.It follows the reports by Malik in 1997 and de Noronha and Pereira in 1998 and traces the history of the national QI program. Given the absence of a comprehensive survey of the program's progress, a few examples of significant initiatives are provided to illustrate what has been accomplished.
