OBJETIVO A Leishmaniose visceral (LV) é uma grave doença vetorial zoonótica transmitida por flebotomíneos. No Novo Mundo, é causada pelo protozoário Leishmania infantum, tendo grande ônus para a saúde humana e animal. Além disso, fatores ambientais e socioeconômicos estão significativamente associados ao padrão epidemiológico da doença. A LV continua se expandindo mundialmente e no Brasil essa situação não é diferente, atingindo territórios onde antes não ocorria, principalmente entre populações marginalizadas em áreas periurbanas. A partir de uma perspectiva one health, este artigo detalha o primeiro levantamento de saúde ambiental em uma das comunidades brasileiras marginalizadas, considerada um novo foco da LV. MÉTODOS Em uma abordagem qualitativa, combinamos capturas entomológicas, registros e observações de campo para fornecer uma avaliação abrangente das condições ambientais. RESULTADOS Os resultados evidenciam a necessidade de monitoramento das espécies de flebotomíneos encontradas, bem como de mais estudos para a real delimitação de seus papéis na transmissão de Le. infantum. Os achados também sugerem que más condições de moradia, falta de saneamento e presença de artrópodes vetores estiveram associados à ocorrência de LV. Ainda assim, argumentamos que muitos dos resultados encontrados são bastante semelhantes entre outras regiões, e que os achados não são apenas um reporte regional, mas podem refletir a realidade de diferentes partes do Brasil e do mundo. CONCLUSÕES Uma abordagem one health é essencial para enfrentar verdadeiramente a LV, abordando os riscos à saúde na interface animal- -humano-ecossistemas, sem ignorar o contexto social envolvido.
