Resumen en portugues
A presente investigação procura trabalhar por meio de imagens da Revista Careta a discussão sobre raça e eugenia no Brasil entre 1930 e 1934. Em especial, examina as caricaturas e a posição de seus caricaturistas sobre a questão raça e cor no Brasil. O trabalho tem a intenção de demonstrar como estes intelectuais percebiam o cenário de desigualdade social no país e como a eugenia entraria na discussão para um ‘melhoramento hereditário’ da nação.
Resumen en ingles
This research seeks to work through the Careta magazine discussion on race and eugenics in Brazil between 1930 and 1934. In particular, it examines cartoons and the position of cartoonists on the subject race and color in Brazil. The work intends to demonstrate how these intellectuals saw the scenario of social inequality in the country and how eugenics entered the discussion on ’hereditary improvement’ of the nation.
