Abstract
Self-care can be understood as health care practices, as well as the representations that are produced about it, developed in the home space in a relatively autonomous way. The way in which individuals take care of their own health can be based on the ingestion of home remedies made with medicinal plants, based on the specific knowledge that helps this use, as with healers and healers. The knowledge used by these individuals when caring for their health and that of third parties has been accessed primarily to enable technological advances from a scientific validation of popular wisdom, without an investigation into the context of the use of medicinal plants, the ways of life of the population, among other aspects concerning the uniqueness of this population. For this, the objective is to analyze the self-care system of healers and healers participating in the Meeting of Knowledge of the Caatinga, which brings together the holders of popular knowledge of Chapada do Araripe annually, in the municipality of Exu-PE. Thus, it is a case study that used participant observation and audio transcripts of the Meeting of Knowledge. For the analysis of the data collection, hermeneutics and dialectics were used, in addition to the writings of the anthropologist Eduardo Menéndez as the theoretical foundation of the findings. The study showed that the healing practices performed by healers and healers keep a lot of information about their life context, their worldview, their interaction with their community and with the health system, above all, the problems experienced that generate health needs. The intellectual repertoire linked to their practices is able to guide the production of public policies aimed at this population, in addition to guiding the characterization of care models that permeate their territory, subsidizing care in health services .
