In the present work, aspects of the life and research of the entomologist Fritz Plaumann are analyzed, with the aim of understanding how he was built as an entomologist in the first half of the 20th century, years 1924-1945. Period that Plaumann and his family arrived in Brazil in 1924 until 1945 with the end of the Second World War. These factors are interspersed with the context of the beginning of the century, that is, the colonization process of the west of Santa Catarina, at that moment the west is seen as the backlands of Santa Catarina, a space of delay and a great “demographic void”. It is in this space that Plaumann develops his scientific research, also begins his entomological collection, establishes relationships with several institutions and researchers, both foreign and from Brazil.
