The water quality and safety are subjects that are getting the attention of
authorities in public health. Several species Cryptosporidium were described, but only
the Cryptosporidium parvum have been associated to the gastrointestinal diseases
(TEUNIS & HAVELAAR, 2002). The criptosporidiose can be fatal in
immunodeficients and it can weaken individuals immunocompetents severely. Another
added difficulty feels for the fact of Cryptosporidium oocysts be resistant to the
environmental pressures, could survive for several months in the aquatic atmosphere
and they are also resistant to the disinfection for chlorine used in the conventional water
treatment (MULLER, 2000).
Now different proposed methods exist, not yet standardized. The absence of a
methodology standardized for detection Cryptosporidium oocysts may difficult the
monitoring viable researches of this pathogen emergent. In Brazil, the data concerning
the occurrence of this parasite in supply water are limited. The norm 1469/2000, that in
your microbiologic potability pattern of water for human consumption recommends
inclusion for research of pathogenic organisms, with the objective of reaching, as goal,
an absence pattern, among other, Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts. It is recommended,
globally, the Cryptosporidium monitoring in drinking water system in cities supplies
with population between 10000 and 100000 people. However, the methods usually used
in the water oocysts determination are inefficient and extremely variables, mentioning
as examples the identification of false-positive for interferences with algae and other
species of protozoa (FRANCO et al., 2001).
It is concluded that inexistence or inadequacy of sewage treatment can generate
the contamination to the rivers water, transmitting and disseminating C. parvum. In face
of that, becomes fundamental the development and improve diagnose methods for its
detection.
