Abstract in Portuguese
Objetivo: O presente Projeto Tecnicocientífico Aplicável objetiva apresentar a realidade do
suicídio entre pessoas idosas no Distrito Federal em comparação com o Brasil. Metodologia:
análise de dados secundárias do SIM-DATASUS e de dados obtidos por meio de base de dados
da Polícia Civil do Distrito Federal. Resultados e Discussão: o suicídio entre idosos do DF,
assim como do Brasil, é masculino, associado a métodos violentos e altamente letais,
especialmente enforcamento, frequentemente ocorrendo no lar do sujeito suicida, que é,
casado, pardo. Suicídio, entretanto, é fenômeno que abrange todas as classes sociais
indiscriminadamente. Conclusão: o presente estudo se propôs a ser o mais ampliado estudo
realizado no Distrito Federal atualmente, mas a necessidade de mais trabalhos quanto ao assunto
continua a se fazer urgente.
Abstract
Objective: This final paper aims at introducing the reality of suicide among older adults in the
Brazilian Federal District (DF) compared to the rest of the country. Method: The methodology
used is the secondary data analysis based on SIM-DATASUS (the national healthcare system’s
mortality information) and on the local civilian police’s database. Results and Discussion: The
research found that suicide among older adults in DF, as in Brazil, is mostly male, related to
violent and highly lethal methods, especially hanging, and frequently happens at the suicidal’s
home, who is usually married and pardo (mixed race). Suicide, though, is something that
encompasses all social classes indiscriminately.
Conclusion: This study aimed at being the broadest one in DF until its releasing, but the need
of more research on the issue remains urgent.
