O termo ‘saúde coletiva’ é uma invenção brasileira que hoje está presente na agenda acadêmica e política de países da América Latina, do Caribe e da África e trata, acima de tudo, de uma forma de abordar as relações entre conhecimentos, práticas e direitos referentes à qualidade de vida. A Abrasco – Associação Brasileira de Pós-Graduação em Saúde Coletiva – nasceu em 1979 impregnada por esse sentido de inovação. Na sua carta de identidade, o termo emblemático ‘saúde coletiva’ aparece para romper barreiras e instigar a confluência de conhecimentos e práticas que integram o compromisso com o cuidado da saúde como valor fundamental da condição humana e seu reconhecimento como um direito universal. Este livro comemora a passagem dos seus 25 anos e interessa aos estudiosos e militantes da Reforma Sanitária e àqueles que desejam conhecer um estudo de caso de uma associação profissional que conseguiu manter a integridade acadêmica e torná-la instrumento decisivo de mudança social.
