escolas públicas do ensino fundamental.
Abstract
Overweight and infant obesity are increasing rapidly in developing countries.
Although there are regional differences, in Brazil, the rise in the number of children
and adolescents with overweight issues is clearly evident. The city of Barueri, located
in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, has observed an increase in the demand for
services given by Secretary of Health of Barueri for children and adolescents with
overweight issues. The purpose of this intervention is to implement a system of
permanent monitoring of alimentary and nutrition through a pilot program in the public
schools of basic education. According to this scenario, the objective is to promote an
effective collaborative partnership between the Secretary of Health and the
Education and Supplying (program pertaining to school nutrition) resulting in the
formation and training of multiple agents working in the schools to promote healthful
alimentary habits and reduce the prevalence of nutritional negligence in the pertinent
school population. The school programs in Health Education have been perceived as
the most efficient strategy to reduce related problems of public health life style,
especially lack of exercise and poor alimentary habits. The pilot program will be
carried through in three public schools of the basic education involving all its pupils. A
school in each region will be selected (center, intermediate, suburb), with different
characteristics, that will allow for post program analysis and comparison of data
among the regions. The project will be implemented and followed for one year.
