Este estudo propõe discutir as relações sociais e políticas estabelecidas pelos irmãos da Santa Casa de Campos dos Goytacazes, entre os anos de 1860 e 1868, durante a provedoria de José Gomes da Fonseca Paraíba. Nesse período, os desvelos filantrópicos concentram-se na fundação do Asilo Nossa Senhora da Lapa, em 1864, voltado ao acolhimento de órfãs e expostas em situação de abandono e administrado pela irmandade da Misericórdia. Para tanto, pretende-se analisar as sociabilidades estabelecidas entre esses homens e suas ações nas atividades assistenciais, a partir da configuração encontrada de seus matrimônios com essas recolhidas, observando os laços estreitos entre os confrades e o interesse em alçar cargos políticos e sociais de prestígio, perante a estrutura social hierarquizada do Segundo Reinado.

This study proposes to discuss the social and political relations established by the brothers of Santa Casa de Campos dos Goytacazes, between the years 1860 and 1868, during Dr. José Gomes da Fonseca Paraíba provedoria’s. During this period, philanthropic care was concentrated on the foundation of the Asylum Nossa Senhora da Lapa, in 1864, aimed at welcoming orphans and exposed in a situation of abandonment and managed by the brotherhood of Misericórdia. To this end, we intend to analyze the sociability established between these men and their actions in assistance activities, based on the configuration found of their marriages with those collected, observing the close ties between the confreres and the interest in taking up prestigious political and social positions, before the hierarchical social structure of the Second Reign.
