COMO INTERPRETAR OS BENEFÍCIOS DAS VACINAS CONTRA A COVID-19?

Resumen en portugues
A principal mensagem deste texto é de alívio e enorme satisfação pela disponibilidade de vacinas eficazes para acabar com essa pandemia em pouco tempo. O trabalho de muitos cientistas por vários anos desenvolvendo tecnologias para vacinas, o foco intensificado em 2020 para desenvolver vacinas específicas contra o SARS-CoV-2 e a sorte deste vírus ser “vacinável” (há vários vírus para os quais todos os esforços científicos não foram suficientes para criar uma vacina efetiva), geraram um resultado que devemos comemorar muito. Felizmente, ainda que não tenha sido descoberto um tratamento efetivo para tratar a COVID-19, foram descobertas vacinas que efetivamente evitam esta doença. Em comparação com outros momentos na história (incluindo a tuberculose nos séculos 19 e 20), estamos em uma situação privilegiada; temos vacinas efetivas para lidar com uma pandemia causada por um agente infeccioso novo na espécie humana, em menos de um ano de duração da pandemia. Nossos antepassados nunca tiveram recurso médico / farmacológico efetivo para lidar com doenças infectocontagiosas em tão pouco tempo após a introdução da doença na espécie humana. Esta é uma situação histórica inédita privilegiada.
