In view of the increasing elderly population around the world, including Brazil, elderly workers have been more and more common in the labor means and tend to increase even more in the next years. Motivated by the unprotection of elderly workers in this country, reaffirmed by labor reforms and facing the perspectives of the new social security, this dissertation aims to identify the participation of elderly in the labor context and the possible repercussions to their worker health. Analyses of national and international public policies for elderly are carried out, beyond demographic data on the Brazilian ageing process. From this, a field research is undertaken with elderly workers of a program for active ageing, in order to understand the social representations related to old age and the relation between work and Worker Health. The research is conducted through Circles of Conversation and the collected data are analyzed by the Content Analysis technique. The results show that work is seen as an income source complementary to retirement and a way to reinsertion in the social media, besides of personal development. The most cited social representations relate to the experience, to the responsibility, to the unproductivity, to the vulnerability and to the age discrimination. Finally, it was evaluated that in general the means and rhythms of work are not adapted to elderly workers, evidencing the necessity of development and effectuation of public policies that contribute to the permanence of elderly in the work means, taking into account the Worker Health.
