A grande maioria das lesmas e caracóis terrestres são gastrópodes pulmonados, classificados principalmente nas clássicas ordens Systellommatophora e Stylommatophora. Ambos os grupos podem desempenhar papel importante na saúde como hospedeiros intermediários de nematódeos causadores de parasitoses humanas e como pragas agrícolas. Por outro lado, o diagnóstico morfológico, em especial das lesmas, é considerado difícil, havendo necessidade de dissecção sob estereomicroscópio e análise do sistema reprodutor para uma segura determinação taxonômica em nível de espécie. Estudos comparativos e/ou chaves dicotômicas para moluscos terrestres ocorrentes no Brasil são escassos e restritos a poucos grupos taxonômicos. O mesmo ocorre em relação a materiais que forneçam exercícios práticos, abordando características mais específicas de forma comparativa. Neste estudo teve-se o objetivo de reunir e gerar informações que auxiliem na identificação de espécies de lesmas e caracóis terrestres Systellommatophora e Stylommatophora conhecidas como pragas e transmissores de parasitoses no sul e sudeste do Brasil, através do fornecimento de descrições, ilustrações, construção de uma chave dicotômica e roteiro de aula prática. Foi analisado um total de oito espécies, sendo estas as lesmas Sarasinula linguaeformis, Latipes erinaceus (Veronicellidae), Deroceras leave (Agriolimacidae), Limax maximus, Limacus flavus (Limacidae) e Meghimatium pictum (Philomycidae), e os caracóis Bradybaena similaris (Bradybaenidae) e Bulimulus tenuissimus (Bulimulidae) Descrições da morfologia externa foram feitas a partir da análise de exemplares vivos, os quais foram também fotografados e medidos. Descrições e desenhos do sistema reprodutor foram feitos com base na dissecção de exemplares sob estereomicroscópio e obtenção de fotos com câmera digital acoplada. Os espécimes utilizados foram coletados para o estudo ou obtidos da Coleção de Moluscos do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (CMIOC). A concha variou entre cônica alongada a subglobosa, interna ou totalmente ausente. Os poros genitais masculino e feminino tiveram átrios separados ou único. A ausência total de um poro respiratório, tentáculos inferiores bifurcados, e a parte ventral do corpo com duas extensões de tegumento, uma de cada lado da sola (os hiponotos) foram características úteis para identificar espécies de Systellommatophora. Forma, coloração e tamanho do corpo das espécies, assim como características do sistema reprodutor das mesmas foram úteis para o diagnóstico das espécies, em ambos os grupos analisados. Estas e outras características são descritas e ilustradas, e utilizadas para a construção da chave dicotômica e roteiro de aula prática. Os resultados apresentados permitiram o rápido diagnóstico das espécies tratadas, dando subsídios para profissionais de diversas áreas, incluindo da saúde pública e agricultura, tanto para uso em campo, como em sala de aula em cursos de formação na área da Malacologia.
