As revisões sistemáticas (RS) são um método para reunir, avaliar criticamente e sintetizar informações validas provenientes dos estudos originais com o propósito de responder perguntas importantes para a saúde. Constituem fonte de informação para as decisões de saúde do mais alto valor. A qualidade das RS é um ponto crucial para os tomadores de decisões, e há dificuldades na aplicação do método. Frequentemente revisões avaliadas apresentam baixa ou moderada qualidade. Os periódicos científicos aumentaram a publicação de RS e através da revisão por pares e normas de submissão podem contribuir com sua qualidade. OBJETIVO: verificar a qualidade das RS brasileiras publicadas em periódicos brasileiros e confrontar com as normas de publicação destes periódicos. METODOLOGIA: Levantamento das RS brasileiras quantitativas publicadas em 2011 em periódicos brasileiros da área de medicina e saúde pública. Aplicação da ferramenta AMSTAR. Levantamento de normas de publicação dos periódicos selecionados para saber se estabelecem normas especificas e ferramentas validadas para submissão de RS. Confronto entre a qualidade das RS selecionadas e as normas de submissão. RESULTADOS: A qualidade das revisões publicadas em 2011 em periódicos brasileiros é predominantemente baixa, apenas 2 atingiram alta qualidade, entanto que 13 foram de moderada e 28 de baixa qualidade. Um periódico tem normas específicas e exige seguir um modelo validado e não obteve nenhuma RS de baixa qualidade. 53,8% especifica que aceita RS, mas não exige padrão para a submissão. CONCLUSOES: Para que as revisões sistemáticas brasileiras posam ser levadas em consideração para decisões em saúde é necessário que se preze pela alta qualidade, especialmente procurando seguir padrões validados internacionalmente. As normas de submissão em periódicos brasileiros selecionados neste estudo evidencia que não há, em sua maioria, exigência explícita sobre qualidade da RS submetida, ficando a pergunta: como será que estão sendo avaliadas estas revisões antes de serem publicadas.
