Resumen en portugues
A infecção por L. (Viannia) braziliensis causa a Leishmaniose Tegumentar Americana (LTA), com tempo prolongado para a cicatrização das lesões. A forte resposta inflamatória desenvolvida pelo hospedeiro é importante para controlar a carga parasitária e a infecção, no entanto, uma imunidade desequilibrada pode cooperar com o dano tecidual observado.
