Abstract
The Brazilian population has been facing significant changes in their demographic and
epidemiological pattern which we observed in recent decades the fertility decline. But among
Brazilian girls up to 15 years, the trend is opposite. In 2004, there were 8.6 live births per
group of one thousand. Five years later, the rate was 9.6 per thousand (UNICEF, 2011).
Adolescent pregnancy is considered a public health problem requiring health surveillance.
Studies show that leads to an increase in truancy, miscarriage, premature birth, obstetric risks,
with major repercussions in the age group 10-14 years due to biological, psychological and
social. Among the actions of health surveillance is monitoring the health situation in need of
permanent systems and continuous monitoring, in order to trigger favorable strategies to
reduce and eliminate risks. However you need information systems that provide indicators
showing trends and key features of the epidemiological profile of the population. In this
context, this study aims to propose an innovative work through the core of epidemiological
surveillance of a referral hospital for high-risk pregnancy in Recife: Deploying the
surveillance of mothers younger than 15 years, using as a guide System Information
(SINASC) by a system capable of providing timely and reliable data on the characteristics of
the epidemiology of maternal and child health. We conducted an evaluation study of live
births to mothers under 15 years based on the information contained in SINASC of the study
hospital during the period from 2007 to 2011. There was an increase in the proportion of live
births to mothers 10 to 14 years in 2011 from 37 (1.43%) in 2010 to 57 (1.67%) in 2011. The
vast majority are single, have less than seven years of study, made less than seven prenatal
consultations, 50% had cesarean sections, plus 50% are housewives, 28% had preterm
deliveries, 40% were residents of the municipality Reef and an average of 2.4% with previous
live births. Is necessary to create multidisciplinary and intersectoral strategies aiming to better
the quality of life of these adolescents, allowing protection and support to the girl-mother,
encouragement to continue studying and to be able to secure a better future for you and your
child as well as preventing a new pregnancy.
