Abstract
At the beginning of the epidemic, HIV infection had a fast progression to AIDS and death.
However, with the advent of antiretroviral therapy and with the policy of free and universal
distribution of these drugs in Brazil, the disease took on characteristics of chronic
degenerative disease, bringing changes in the patient's profile, generating the need for new
strategies for appropriateness of care provided to this population. Specialized Care Services
(NCS), facing people living with HIV (PLHIV) were created in order to provide
comprehensive care and quality patient care through a multidisciplinary team, seeking not
only the treatment of opportunistic diseases consequent to HIV as well as comorbidities,
disease resulting from the process of human aging and other morbid conditions. Moreover,
both as HIV antiretroviral therapy have been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular and
metabolic diseases. The objective of this study is to provide a multidisciplinary outpatient
restructuring the initial approach to adults infected with HIV at the Hospital Correia Shrike, to
improve the indicators of morbidity, mortality and quality of life.
