Abstract
Hancornia speciosa Gomes (Apocynaceae) is a fruit tree known as mangabeira with wide distribution in Brazil and widely used in folk medicine, due to its anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, antidiabetic and antimicrobial properties. However, no study was carried out to evaluate the allelopathic potential of this species. In this sense, this study aimed to investigate the allelopathic activity of H. speciosa, from the aqueous extract of dry leaves on the germination of Lactuca sativa L. The experiment was carried out in the municipality of Porto Nacional, Tocantins, Brazil, from August/2015 to July/2016. Mangabeira leaves collected in three Cerrado areas were ground until a powder was obtained which was later diluted in distilled water, resulting in the aqueous extract with concentrations of 10%, 7.5%, 5.0%, and 2.5% m/v, the distilled water being used as a control. A completely randomized design was used, after analysis of the design, dose, site and dose-local interaction, dose degrees of freedom were deployed in orthogonal polynomials. It can be verified that the aqueous extract of leaves of H. speciosa presented a negative allelopathic effect on the seeds of L. sativa, as it delayed the germinability and increased the average time of germination, whereas the synchrony index was not strongly influenced.
