The American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ACL) occurs in the state of Rio de Janeiro since the last century in areas located near the forest fragments. This prevails in poverty conditions and maintain inequality between people. In the city of Rio de Janeiro, human cases were recorded mainly in the west of the city, in Jacarepagua, where is located the Campus Fiocruz Mata Atlântica-CFMA, in Atlantic slope of the Pedra Branca massif. The CFMA represents 65% of the Juliano Moreira Colony area and has 50% of its forest area, superimposed on the Pedra Branca State Park and area with houses, organized in six communities. At the time this area was given to FIOCRUZ (2003), cases of ACL represented 68% of those registered in Jacarepagua, corresponding to 8% of notifications in Rio. As a disease of focal transmission, the ACL in Brazil is determined by the relationship among the different links of epidemiological chain restricted to ecological niches, where environmental changes influence the incidence and spread of the disease, by the closer contact established between man and vector. Given the epidemiological complexity, the adoption of integrated actions appears as a promising possibility for surveillance and control. The aim of this study was to discuss a proposal that integrates health education activities and social technologies to entomological surveillance, recommended by the Ministry of Health, as well as evaluating the production process of ACL in CFMA. Part of the study aimed to integrate information about the biological heritage of CFMA through inventory of sand fly fauna held in permanent monitoring sites (Permanent Parcels / PP), as part of the CFMA Biodiversity Monitoring Program. This study also intended to contribute to the understanding of the local eco-epidemiology of ACL. Among sixteen sand fly identified species, Psathyromyia pascalei, Sciopemyia microps, Pintomyia bianchigalatiae and Pintomyia misionensis are registered for the first time in Rio city. Migonemyia migonei, occurring in all PP, shows wide distribution, adaptability to different environments, being suggested as responsible for enzootic transmission cycle of the ACL, in the bestpreserved areas of CFMA. In order to work on prevention and surveillance, were carried out educational activities, workshop with the family health teams and community stakeholders, aiming at sensitizing them to issues related to leishmaniasis. They were informed on eco-epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention, strengthening its role in the communities as important players in health care. Later, was done activity with residents, through lectures, dialogical table discussions and distribution of informative material on the ACL. The workshop on social technology enabled the interaction among residents in the production of collective protection materials, based on group dynamics to build protective screens for doors and windows, as a preventive practice to reduce human-vector contact at home. Also, as part of educational practices were developed information materials such, brochures and games, these high-impact when they worked with residents.
