Resumen en portugues
Este artigo pretende analisar a concepção social da tuberculose nas primeiras décadas do século XX utilizando a imagem iconográfica e a imagem expressa em depoimentos orais como fontes históricas. Parte-se do princípio que a representação da doença é a síntese de visões diferenciadas, o resultado de um jogo polifônico, que se expressa seja na iconografia seja no testemunho daqueles que com ela conviveram. Qualquer que seja a imagem que a doença possa vir a ter como fenômeno mental, cultural, esta imagem deverá se constituir como síntese de diferentes formas de percepção e abordagem da doença.
Resumen en ingles
The article analyzes the social concepts of tuberculosis at the beginning of the twentieth century, examining how the Brazilian society reacted to the disease as a social phenomenon, by evaluating iconographic presentations and oral records as historical documents. It is considered that the social representation of illness or of a disease is a synthesis of different views, a polyphonic result, that is expressed in various records.
