Abstract in Portuguese
Abstract
Meteorological variables may directly or indirectly affect the oviposition activity of Aedes
aegypti. Was analyzed the influence of meteorological variables (rainfall, mean air
temperature, solar radiation, maximum wind velocity and relative air humidity) on the Aedes
aegypti oviposition dynamics in three neighborhoods of the city of Recife (Brasília Teimosa,
Morro Conceição and Dois Irmãos/Sítio dos Pintos) and in the Archipelago of Fernando de
Noronha, Pernambuco. The correlation between the meteorological variables and number of
eggs was analyzed in each study area using the Pearson correlation test. Then, the visual
analysis of the temporal trends of the number of eggs was carried out to verify the stationarity
condition of the time series (no trend). Finally, the terms of moving averages (q) and the
autoregressive term (p) were obtained by constructing the graphs of the autocorrelation
functions and the partial autocorrelation function, the association model. The effects of the
meteorological variables on the abundance of eggs were analyzed using the autoregressive
model of order 1. There was a positive correlation between Aedes aegypti egg count and
precipitation, accumulated solar radiation and relative humidity in all study areas. The AR (1)
models indicated a positive association with precipitation in Brasília Teimosa neighborhoods
(p = 0.064) and Dois Irmãos/Sítio dos Pintos (p = 0.008), while humidity was associated with
the number of eggs in the neighborhood of Morro da Conceição (p = 0.046) and in the
Fernando de Noronha Archipelago (p = 0.005). The associations were found with a twomonth
lag. The analysis shows variations of the effect of climatic variables on Aedes eggs
density according to the local urban context and may direct the vector control measures, two
months before the rainy periods.
