Abstract
Although researchers have long recognized the importance of teachers and students subjectivity's in the pedagogical process, research on this subject remains uncommon. Within the Science Education field the issue seems to have even less attention: during the short history since its institutionalization many researches turned to the study of scientific concepts and their interpretation by the students, leaving little room for discussion on how the teachers and students personalities participate in the school experience. Aware of these shortcomings, this study aims to observe how those people who do the roles of teachers and students at the school participate in the process of teaching and learning in the disciplines Biology and Sciences. More specifically, the research focus lies on the relationship between students, teachers and knowledge, trying to understand how their subjectivities participate in the discussion of the aforementioned disciplines. The study took place in a federal school located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the Colégio Pedro II campus Centro, using period of a year and a half for work in the field. The research was conducted through the method of ethnography of school practice, an ethnographic type study that is a combination of participant observation and intensive interviews Twenty students from different school years and all the Biology team composed of eight teachers participated directly in the research through interviews, forming a material added to the more than 400 hours of field work makes up the data that were taken for content analysis. The results point to an amalgam between emotions and intellection in student learning as well as between personal and professional fields in teaching activity, too signaling the importance of context for the educational process and a greater sensibility of the transversal theme Sexual Orientation to personalities of teachers and students
