The production of medicines in the form of capsules and tablets must achieve certain
quality specifications, ensuring that the medicine has the expected action when
administered to the patient. To attend to these prerequisites, several tests have to be
carried out, and are contained in the pharmacopoeias and/or being developed by the
manufacturer of the product. The most important tests in quality control of medicines,
are the chemical and physical as determination of active component (content),
dissolution, content uniformity, weight, hardness, thickness, friability and
disintegration. Controlling these variables, we can control the manufacture of the
product, ensuring quality specifications. Among these parameters, the dissolution test
has been of great importance in the quality control of medicines, in order to ensure that
information declared by the manufacturer is consistent with the product monograph.
The research recently done, a small review on the dissolution test and its ocun
importance. It was also presented a case of analyzing results of antiretroviral Efavirenz
600 mg analysed in the period of one year. Efavirenz is a widely known used drug in
Brazil and it is part of the HIV cocktail treatment. From this survey, it was possible to
build tables and charts providing a better bench marking of product variability.
