Resumen en portugues
A esquistossomose é endêmica em 13
das 18 províncias de Angola o que
corresponde a 72,2% do território naciona
l (RELATÓRIO do MINSA, 2001). Não há
dúvida sobre a dimensão do problema em
termos de saúde pública, entretanto o
grande desafio é o desenvolvimento de inte
rvenções adequadas para enfrentá-lo.
Vários autores enfatizam a necessidade de enraizar as ações educativas e o
planejamento em saúde em um conhecimento
prévio dos fatores sociais e culturais
que influenciam a aceitação e participaç
ão das populações em um determinado
programa. No presente es
tudo, utilizou-se a abordagem antropológica para
investigar as maneiras de pensar e de
agir associadas à esquistossomose
hematóbica pela população residente no
bairro Sassacária, província do Bengo-
Angola e com base nessa investigação i
dentificar elementos que possam orientar
uma ação educativa na comuni
dade.
habitantes locais.
A análise do conjunto de entrevi
stas nos colocou frente
a
uma rede cultural de
significados interligando idéias sobr
e manifestações, gravidade, causas e
tratamentos
e configurando
maneiras típicas
de pensar e agir
frente à
esquistossomose hematóbica. Ela
apontou também a necessidade de
implementação de programas educ
ativos junto à comunida
de estudada e, ao revelar
um universo de maneiras típicas de pensar e agir dessa comunidade, apontou
também algumas diretrizes para
a construção desses programas.
Resumen en ingles
Schistosomiasis is endemic in 13 among the 18 countries in Angola, which
corresponds to 72,2% of the national terri
tory (MINSA report, 2001). Although there is
no doubt about the relevance of
the problem in terms of
public health, the great
challenge is the development of adequate inte
rventions to confront the problem.
Different authors emphasize the need of basing educational actions and health
planning on previous knowledge of social
and cultural factors
that influence the
acceptance and the participation of the popul
ation in a certain program. The present
study used an anthropological
approach to investigate t
he ways of thinking and
behaving associated to haem
atobium schistosomiasis
among the residents of
Sassacária, province Bengo-Angola, and to i
dentify elements that
could orientate an
educational action in the community. The co
llection and the analysis of data were
based on the model of
Signs, Meanings and Actions
elaborated by Corin et al.
(1989,1990,1992a,1992b) and
instrumentalized by means of semi-structured
interviews. 45 key informants were sele
cted among the local
inhabitants. The
analysis of the interviews led us to a cultural chain of meanings linking ideas about
episodes, degrees, causes and treatments of
the disease and configuring typical
manners of thinking and acting towards ha
ematobium schistosomiasis. The analyses
also showed the need of im
plementing educational progr
ams in the community, as
well as it pointed out some directions for th
e construction of these programs when it
unveiled a universe of typical manners of
thinking and acting in the community.
