DECLARAÇÃO DE ISTAMBUL SOBRE SAÚDE GLOBAL

Resumen en portugues
A Federação Mundial de Saúde Pública (World Federation of Public Health Associations _ WFPHA) realizou em Istambul, Turquia, de 27 de abril a 1º de maio de 2009, o seu 12º Congresso Mundial de Saúde Pública. A Federação é a mais importante entidade de saúde pública do mundo, reunindo mais de 70 associações nacionais (como a ABRASCO) e entidades regionais (como a Associação Européia de Saúde Pública _ EUPHA e a Associação de Educação em Saúde Pública da América Latina _ ALAESP); estima-se que indiretamente, por intermédio das associações nacionais membros, a Federação representa mais de 250 mil sanitaristas de todo o mundo. O evento reuniu mais de 2.300 profissionais de saúde pública de 125 países e contou com a presença de destacados líderes mundiais da saúde pública, como Margaret Chan e Tim Evans, respectivamente, Diretora e Diretor Associado da Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS); Sir Michael Marmot, responsável pelo Informe Mundial sobre Determinantes Sociais da Saúde; e mais de 15 Ministros de Estado da Saúde, incluindo os da Turquia e do Brasil, José Gomes Temporão. Mais de 80 painéis, 400 apresentações orais e 700 posters foram apresentados nos cinco dias da reunião. O tema central do Congresso foi Making a Difference in Global Public Health: Education, Research and Practice, e todo seu desenvolvimento pautou-se por responder aos desafios colocados para a área da saúde e aos profissionais de saúde pública nos planos locais, nacionais e global pela presente conjuntura de crise sistêmica global do capitalismo como o conhecemos até aqui.
