O texto destaca uma tendência contrária à crescente orientação "focalista" na prática médica, que muitas vezes prioriza tecnologias caras e a medicalização impulsionada por interesses de mercado. Um número significativo de estudantes e jovens profissionais brasileiros está redescobrindo a função social da medicina ao optar por se tornarem médicos de Família e Comunidade. Estes profissionais se orgulham de cuidar das pessoas de forma integral, dentro de seu contexto familiar e comunitário, promovendo e acompanhando a saúde a longo prazo. Eles são vistos como essenciais para lidar com as demandas de acesso à saúde e também para interferir nos processos de determinação de saúde e doenças. No Brasil, apenas 2% dos médicos são especializados em Medicina de Família, representando 10% dos profissionais que atuam em equipes de atenção básica. Em contraste, países como Canadá e Cuba têm uma proporção muito maior de médicos de família, refletindo uma estrutura de saúde que valoriza a atenção primária. Especialistas de vários países ressaltam a importância da medicina de família na compreensão do adoecimento sistêmico das populações, especialmente diante de políticas econômicas que degradam as condições de vida. O texto também aborda preocupações com o desmonte do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) e da Seguridade Social no Brasil, destacando a visão de pesquisadores, trabalhadores e estudantes sobre os impactos negativos dessa medida. Além disso, discute a importância da atividade física orientada, do acesso à informação de qualidade sobre saúde na internet e da ampliação das estratégias de prevenção e tratamento do HIV/aids, incluindo a profilaxia pré-exposição. No entanto, há preocupação com a disseminação de informações infundadas ou alarmantes na internet, que pode levar ao autodiagnóstico e à automedicação sem orientação profissional. A implantação da profilaxia pré-exposição para HIV no SUS, prevista para 2016, foi adiada para o próximo ano.
