O texto aborda a influência do neoliberalismo nas últimas décadas, destacando a repetição de um discurso único para sustentar soluções independentemente de sua adequação à realidade. Esse modelo, baseado na primazia do capital, conta com o apoio da mídia para validar suas soluções de forma tautológica. Contrapondo essa abordagem, o autor defende uma abordagem progressista, que parte do diagnóstico da realidade antes de chegar às soluções. O exemplo apresentado na edição é o problema do lixo em cidades brasileiras. Metade delas enfrenta esse desafio, mas há progressos devido a uma lei assinada em 2010 pelo ex-presidente Lula, que exige coleta seletiva, reciclagem e destinação adequada do lixo. O texto destaca a importância de conhecer o problema em profundidade, buscar soluções sustentáveis e envolver a sociedade na redução do consumo e na separação do lixo.
