This dissertation aimed to analyze the history of Aids from the experience of the writers Caio Fernando Abreu and Herve Guibert, expressed in their works from the moment of its diagnosis until the death of each one. Understanding that the Aids epidemic, with its sudden appearance at the beginning of the 1980s, recalled explanatory elements of ancient large pests, we aim to understand how the two writers have worked the arsenal of explanations for the disease in their processes of individual preparation about the experience with the illness. Therefore, we have selected some important aspects of the social representation of Aids, their supposed predilection for male homosexuals, the decays caused in body and death, and analyze how these are addressed in the works of both writers. The literary sources were taken under the category self writing and analyzed comparatively, being identified important differences and similarities in the discourses produced by each one of the writers. From the understanding about social representation of the disease as a space of intersection between public and private, we have identified the presence of aspects of collective representation present in individual production concerning the two writers, so that they one time sustain, one time deconstruct the ideas on Aids in that period. On the assumption that HIV diagnosis and the experience of illness influenced the identities of the two writers, we identified ruptures and continuities in the process of developing its own subjects. Aids has become an important element in identitary construction of both, however, is not limited to the disease. Although they talk about the illness publicly, speak about it not meant becoming solely a HIV positive, there is clear intention on the part of Abreu and Guibert to superimpose the identity of writer to the identification with the disease.
