Resumen en portugues
Este artigo se propõe analisar o poder de persuasão das imagens médicas, tomando como exemplos, dois casos específicos: o uso das fotografias da medicina mental européia, no fim do século XIX, e o das neuroimagens, no campo das neurociências contemporâneas. O ponto em comum entre os dois casos analisados é o poder de convencimento na suposta retratação da realidade de comportamentos ou quadros patológicos, sobretudo no campo da medicina mental. Daremos ênfase ao campo das neuroimagens, traçando uma análise crítica das particularidades de seu processo de produção, sobretudo por pesquisadores das neurociências.
Resumen en ingles
The article aims to analyze the persuasiveness of medical images using as examples two specific cases: the use of mental picture of European medicine in the late nineteenth century, and of neuroimaging in the field of contemporary neuroscience. The commonality between the two cases studied is the power of convincing portrayal of the supposed reality of behaviors or pathological conditions, especially in the field of mental medicine. We will emphasize the field of neuroimaging, mapping a critical analysis of the peculiarities of its production process, particularly by researchers in the neurosciences.
