Resumen en ingles
In the 21st century, all fields depend on computers, including health care. This study was aimed at analyzing the process for digitizing patient records and determining its impact on professionals that archive such records in a health care institution. The study adopted a qualitative exploratory approach, and 12 medical archive professionals were interviewed using a semi-structured script. The results indicate that the medical archive professionals were not trained to electronically archive medical records; however, they are professionals with access to privileged information in patient records under hospital care. Medical archive professionals are important information sources for using patient records effectively, and to ensure quality, they should be integrated in the patient record digitization process as collaborators or potential professionals.
