O ensaio de dissolução do ponto de vista da Vigilância Sanitária, atende ao binômio eficácia e segurança, é importante por permitir verificar a correlação da quantidade de substância ativa liberada e dissolvida no meio próprio, portanto a quantidade que está disponível para a absorção em função do tempo. O ensaio de dissolução é uma ferramenta importante na indústria farmacêutica e adequadamente realizado serve para atender a algumas funções: orientar o desenvolvimento de formulações, monitorar o processo de fabricação, detectar desvios de fabricação e minimizar o risco da falta de bioequivalência entre lotes. Este estudo discute os resultados insatisfatórios das análises das Formas Farmacêuticas Sólidas Orais dando ênfase ao ensaio de dissolução, no período de 2000 a 2004, com vistas a identificar possíveis fontes de agravo à saúde pública. A avaliação dos resultados das análises dos últimos 5 anos permitiu: apontar classes terapêuticas a serem inseridas nos programas de monitoramento da qualidade de medicamentos; destacou a reincidência de uma empresa sendo reprovada em mais de um produto, em mais de uma substância ativa e em anos diferentes; ressaltando também a importância do papel do Laboratório Oficial (INCQS) no contexto da Vigilância Sanitária.
