Abstract
Tuberculosis was considered a public health problem in 1993 by the World Health Organization, and until then it has decimated millions of people worldwide, being in 2015 the infectious disease that led to the most deaths on the planet, surpassing HIV in 2020 overcome by COVID-19. The main objective of this work is to describe the panorama of tuberculosis during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic in Pernambuco. A survey was carried out in the DATASUS, TABNET-PE and state and national bulletins. Data were analyzed and correlated in the Excel 2013 program. As a result, there was a reduction in notifications during the initial years of the pandemic and, in 2021, a significant increase in the pent-up demand for cases and deaths. The strategy for the end of tuberculosis set back advances in disease control by years due to the decrease in diagnostic activities, active search, consultations and treatment, hindering progress in tuberculosis control in Brazil and in the world.
