Abstract
The article analyzes the medical and political acting of Joaquim Augusto Tanajura, in the region of Alto Madeira from the years 1910 to 1915, problematizing the independent actions of the members of Rondon Comission in the northwest of the country. Tanajura was the head of the department of health service between 1909 and 1912, and worked as an intendant in Santo Antônio da Madeira between 1912 and 1915. His political acting involved the questioning of the diffused images about Alto Madeira, linked to the omnipresence of malaria, the abandoned situation that the local inhabitants were facing and the sanitary reformation in the city of Santo Antônio do Madeira, the most insalubrious of the area.
