Abstract in Portuguese
O presente estudo objetivou analisar o atendimento fisioterapêutico realizado
Abstract
The objective of the present Project was the analysis of physical therapy
assistance rendered to the patient with AIDS in the context of Home Care Therapy
(ADT). Also, it is intended to (a) point out the importance of physical therapy
assistance in Home Care programs carried out by the various public health care
services and (b) propose a protocol of conduct for Home Care with physical therapy
for AIDS patients.
The field work was carried out during the first semester of 1999, in the city of
Vitória, State of Espírito Santo, Brazil, where six adult patients of both sexes, were
evaluated and followed up by means of a conduct of physical therapy carried out in
one or two weekly visits, employing case study methodology as reference. The role
of the care taker, usually a woman, without whom it would be difficult to carry out and
ADT was of great relevance in the dynamics of home care.
The research is structured on three important points which involve ADT
dynamics, the context of physical therapy and its development, and the study of
patients cared for in their homes, which made it possible to establish the basic
procedures of conduct in physical therapy, thus contributing towards the
improvement of the quality of life of the patients and this field of knowledge.
The study presented positive results in the case of assisted patients,
reinforcing the importance of this form of assistance in the case of persons afflicted
by HIV/AIDS, besides having contributed with new insights for the multi-professional
teams which work in this area of health care.
