Abstract
This article problematizes the medical-mental discourse about female normality in the 1920s and 1930s in the Federal District. It consists of investigating to what extent the scientific dissemination of the concept of “normal woman” has achieved hegemony over other knowledge in society. In this sense, it was investigated whether it is possible to point to a medicalization in action in the period, using the analysis of scientific journals and lay magazines that circulated in Brazil in the 1920s. This choice was due to the understanding that these vehicles of communication established a “role modeling” of gender identity, as well as having a tremendous impact as opinion makers.
