Abstract
The general objective of this dissertation is to understand the relationships between work and health, based on the analysis of the material coming from the clinical-institutional activity carried out by the Project of Attention to Mental Health of Workers of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PRASMET) of Nursing of the Institute of Psychiatry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IPUB/UFRJ). The background of this discussion has a historical narrative of how the IPUB was constituted in a psychiatric center within the university from its foundation as hospice in 1842, arriving at the present day of the Psychiatric Reform. The theoretical framework used was also based on the concepts of activity and body that were brought by Schwartz and the dimension of health established by Canguilhem, understanding that health work is also a work of creation and production of knowledge. For this, we chose to construct the text in the format of articles. The first one was elaborated with the purpose of presenting the history of PRASMET and highlighting its activities over two decades of existence. The second is a deepening of the issue of work in a psychiatric ward in a historical period that can be considered post Psychiatric Reform, with prominence to the nursing professionals' statements. We conclude that there is a very heterogeneous panel that expresses the diversity of ways of thinking and acting in the work of nursing, so that each worker brings to the scene what he believes to be the best for the patient and it is in the name of this ethic in the care that orbit the more dramatic issues of nursing within a psychiatric ward. In addition, the restitution of this dissertation is understood as the collective construction process itself, which was determinant to define at each moment the research paths and is in progress from the first moment of our activities.
