Abstract
The persistent idea that the association between men and violence is natural, wich reinforces it, is the trigger that started this research. In this sense, it was identified in the social projects\2019 discourse a supposed demand for "violence prevention" actions developed, especially for young men living in slums, which comprehends sports as their main tool. Thus, this research had the general objective of investigating this discourse, especially in relation to gender, masculinities and "violence prevention" and, specifically, to identify and analyze the social representations about "violence prevention" and the construction of masculinity through these projects. For this, a qualitative research was developed, specifically a case study, which was conducted using methods of ethnographic observation and semi-structured interviews. The fieldwork was carried out for three months in the slum court where the actions of bodily practices of the researched social project were carried out, added to the participation in three days of "training" of the team professionals, which were recorded in a field diary. The interviews were conducted with two "social educators", who worked directly with the target audience on the court, and four professionals who worked at the management level. The field research material (field diary and transcript of the interviews) was analyzed with Bardin\2019s theory, through Content Analysis, and discussed in dialogue with the literature. As a result, a gap was identified mainly between the actions observed in the sports court and the speech conveyed both by the professionals who worked on the project and by their formal documents. The "prevention of violence" as an action to be achieved or a topic to be debated was not identified in the daily routine of the classes, nor were gender issues - which also appeared (discursively) as objectives of the project. The actions of the studied social project, by means of the offered corporal practices (especially futsal), demonstrated to have as objective only to offer some "supervised" activity to its target public during a certain period of time. Thus, it was possible to conclude that the social project of this case study serves to maintain an order in which children, adolescents and young people living in slums, especially men, need to be "pacified" or, as some authors call it, "docilized" or "civilized".
