Abstract in Portuguese
A análise lexical
identificou duas grandes matrizes de sentido:
“a doença” e “a doença sexual”. A primeira
A segunda matriz
reúne o discurso de homens adultos e menos
escolarizados, e revela um discurso permeado
de crendices e superstições, ligando a doença
a práticas sexuais consideradas impuras. Na estrutura das representações sociais a sífilis
aparece associada aos elementos DST, sexual,
tratamento, preservativo, prevenção, sangue
e perigo.
sangue e perigo.
Abstract
The research presented in this paper aims to
investigate the meaning of syphilis among men,
relying on the Social Representation Theory. It
was applied an instrument of evocation from
the inductive term syphilis to 265 men, using
the technique of free association. For data
analysis, descriptive statistics were performed,
lexical analysis of discourse with supporting
software ALCESTE, analysis of the structure
of social representations in support of the
EVOC software and centralilty test of the main
words. The lexical analysis identified two
major sources of significance, “the disease” and
“sexual disease”. The first contains the speech of younger men and more educated, focused on
prevention and treatment of disease. The second
matrix collects the speech of adult men and less
educated, and reveals a speech riddled with
popular beliefs and superstitions, linking the
disease to sexual practices considered impure.
In the structure of social representations,
syphilis appears associated with the elements
DST, sexual, treatment, condoms, prevention,
blood and danger. It was observed in these
social representations, an amalgam of ideas,
beliefs and values
that do coexist, on the one
hand, more recent elements of the history of
syphilis, such as treatment, prevention and
condoms, and other, more archaic elements,
such as blood and danger.

La investigación presentada en este artículo
tiene como objetivo describir y analizar
el significado de la sífilis entre hombres,
basándose en la Teoría de las Representaciones
Sociales.
infecciones de transmisión sexual (ITS), sexual,
tratamiento, preservativo, prevención, sangre y
peligro.
