Abstract
The centenary of the first museum collection of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, under the responsibility of the Museum of Life, is a propitious moment to reflect on the formation processes and methods of diffusion of this collection that witnesses the transformations of the fields of health and biosciences in the Brazil of the last century. The objective here is to know the strategies implemented throughout the decades of operation of the old Oswaldo Cruz Museum, highlighting the different conceptions in their museological narrative and how they were expressed in the cultural scene. Historical aspects related to the collections will be presented to show the importance of museums as key spaces for the reflection of the different manifestations and attempts to narrate the past and the scientific production. The documentary research reveals that researching the construction, transformations, uses and functions of the exhibitions that appeared in this museum are important sources of reflection for the museological field since this form of communication presupposes a conception of society, time and social agents. Mainly through them that the museum defines itself as cultural and political diffuser.
