Abstract
In recent times the Zika virus has emerged as a serious health problem to be faced, and the imminence of an epidemic became concern of scientists worldwide. Given this scenario, the questions that guide this research are: what is the Brazilian contribution in this production, what is the level of internationalization, whether and which way the scientific production can be influenced by the emergence of a disease such as Zika. For this, it was taken as the object of analysis the publications indexed by the Scopus database, in the period 1949-July 2016. The 953 references found were downloaded, standardized and analyzed quantitatively. The evolution of the world and Brazilian production in the subject focuses on the last three years (2014-2016), mainly in the year 2016 and were published in different document typologies, that can indicates a relationship between the increase in scientific production, distribution and dynamics and the emergence of the disease as a problem of public health worldwide. Brazil is emerging as one of the main producers of knowledge on the subject. Its production is characterized by its high degree of internationalization, its dissemination mainly in medical journals area and presents Fiocruz as the main institution affiliation. It should be noted that the analysis developed here did not intend to be exhaustive, but rather to promote an initial reflection on the current state of knowledge production on a large scale subject for the Brazilian health. Complementary analyzes are being developed by the group, such as the thematic categorization of studies and citation analysis.
